  On summer holidays in Provence we fled for a couple of days from the heat and sought refuge in the French Alps - at Isola 2000 (yes, altitude 2000 meters). Mainly a winter resort, it is also open in July and August for hikers and mountain lovers. The first evening we had dinner at Restaurant l'Himalaya and were very pleasantly surprised by the food and the service. The three of us had a trio of fish and prawns deliciously grilled, the most tender filet mignon, perfectly done, with an exciting variety of mini-vegetables, and a fondue with local "jambon cru" and wonderful, foamy local cheese siphoned into a holed-out bagel. With three very good deserts and two glasses of wine it came to € 130, very good value for money. We were there early in the evening with very few other guests and got perfect service from the small team of the restaurant. The location is breath-taking and a story on its own. From the front porch you can watch a magnificent sunset behind the Alps.

  We've visited L'Himalaya several times over the last 6 years and it used to be one of the best places for an evening meal in Isola 2000. However, it has changed ownership since May 2018 and is now run like a lunchtime snack bar, but with the high prices of a quality restaurant.I do hope they improve quickly and that the previously excellent service is restored.However, best avoided for now - try the Petit Chamois (very good)instead, or the Cow Club (this has improved in the last year).

  We’ve been here in many occasions over many years. Always brilliant. This time though, not. The wonderful flambé brochettes are no longer flambéd. A major mistake. Steak were slightly overdone. My veal Milanese was delicious though. Drinks are ok and priced just about ok. Room only had one other table occupied. We had a nice time - we were a table of 7 so we made our own fun. Freebie lemonchello at the end for everyone was a good touch. Main course only, 2 bottles of wine (€45 each). Total €272. Other restaurants have done better for us this year- gutting as we love this place. Hope they can up the ante again.

  We've visited L'Himalaya several times over the last few years and it has always been excellent.The menu providesa good choice of varied dishes, the quality of the food is excellent and the service from the family owners is very friendly.I would definitely recommend L'Himalaya and Le Petit Chamois as the best places to eat in Isola 2000.

  So nice atmosphere and service. The meal, wine and dessert were excellent. First time in my life I tasted grilled kangaroo. Something I recommend.
